63 × 53 × 9 cm According to current statistics, Frankfurt is once again the world capital of cocaine and crack. Schnitzel with green sauce is considered a Frankfurt cultural staple. By now, cocaine is too — a cultural plague. Traditionally, Frankfurter Schnitzel is coated in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs before being fried. In this work, the coating consists of cocaine and baking soda — when heated, it is well known, crack is produced. Baking soda (Natron) recurs throughout Walldorf’s work: as a sacred cure-all, as an everyday household multipurpose aid. Here, it appears as a misused substance — repurposed for the production of crack, for addiction, for everything that destroys both people and society. The material used is fake. Frankfurt’s reality is not. #cartelwalldorf
